STUDIES ON THE PENETRATION OF CCA AND BORIC ACID PRESERVATIVES IN TREATED RED GUM WOOD

Preservatives are considered to be more effective depending upon on the depth of penetration into the treated wood samples. The objective of any preservative treatment is to allow the chemicals to penetrate into the wood and remain long for durability, resist against fungi and bacteria and other physical and weathering processes. This experiment was designed to study the penetration of preservatives into the wood after treatment. The studies were conducted at the School of Forestry, University of Melbourne, Australia as a part of the training programme on wood science during May-July 2001.
