Nebbiolo - quietly enjoying increasing popularity

The most famous Nebbiolo comes from the areas of Barolo and Barbaresco in Italy. Wines called Barolo are found centred around the townships of Barolo, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba, and the northern half of Monforte d'Alba. Barolohas two distinct types of soil profiles. There is calcareous marl around La Mora and Barolo, which produce wines that are softer and fruitier. The other soil type typically found around the rest of the zone has a high percentage of compressed sandstone.This soil is less fertile and, therefore, the wines from these areas tend to be more intense and powerful, and have a longer ageing profile.
