Evaluation of Phytotoxicity of Soyasaponin Against Some Problematic Weeds

摘要

The Phytotoxic properties of plant chemicals can be exploited as a tool for weed control. Phytotoxicity of soyasaponin isolated from soybean (Glycine max L.) seeds was tested on shoot and root growth of most problematic weeds of rice and wheat fieldsviz. Echinochloa colona, Vicia sativa and Ischaemum rogusum. Soyasaponin was extracted from defatted seed powder of soybean seeds and identified by thin layer chromatography. Results showed that soyasaponin isolated from G. max has the potential to completely inhibit the growth of E. colona at 1.25 % and I. rogusum and V. sativa at 5 and 10 % concentrations, respectively under lab condition.
