摘要

The sizeable Indian population in the rural areas is poor, landless labourers and small scale fanners, who depend on daily casual works round the year for their livelihood. Poultiy keeping is an age old practice in India especially rural/ tribal areasdue to the passion and affection for birds. The only drawback is their low production potential and the poor returns from each bird. The commercial poultry fanning is centralized in and around urban and peri urban areas where only 30% of the populationare living. Major section of the rural people is not included in the poultry production-marketing-consumption chain, especially the people in rural/tribal areas because of the operational difficulties. Hence the rural and tribal people are deprived of the chicken products, othenvise available at higher pnces.
