CeCl_3 centre dot 7H_2O-NaI is found to be an effective catalyst for the synthesis of various letra-substituted pyridine derivatives via Michael addition of beta-dicarbonyl compounds to alpha,beta-unsaturated oximes and subsequent ring closure by cyclo-dehydration of these products.
