Analysis of soot accumulation inside diesel engines

Thick smoke is exhausted from the tail pipe when starting or accelerating a diesel engine vehicle. This research showed that this phenomena is caused when soot accumulated inside the engine is eliminated. A major eliminating section for the DI engine is the cavity and for the IDI engine the combustion chamber. We developed a micro smoke meter which can measure locally the generating section and amount, and a method to calculate the accumulated soot weight from the smoke concentration.
