Gain in Knowledge of Scouts through Integrated Pest Management Based Training Programme in Cotton

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the integrated pest management based training programme of scouts in cotton crop. The respondents were 240 scouts who were trained in six trainings organized by Department of Entomology, Punjab AgriculturalUniversity, Ludhiana. Each training comprised of 40 scouts. Knowledge gain was measured by applying pre test and post test method. The study revealed that the knowledge gain of farmers about cultural methods ranged from 35-100 per cent. The knowledge gain of identification of insect pests and natural enemies and diseases of cotton varied from 64-100 and 29-79 per cent respectively. Similarly 48-71 per cent of trainees gained knowledge about economic threshold level of insect pests after the training. The gain in knowledge about the proper insecticide use and related problem ranged from 46-100 per cent after the training.
