Optimum humidity and suitable temperature are certainly conducive to well being of orchid plants but not an absolute guarantee to be free from pests. Even under best conditions pest may attack the plants and only constant and attentive vigilance can keep the pests at bay. Orchids are subject to attack by various kinds of pests like scale, mite, aphid, shoot-borer, mealybug, black weevil, grasshopper, lepidopteran caterpillar, snail, etc. The major pests of orchids and their management are summarized.
