Japan regards diplomatic efforts for disarmament and non-proliferation as vital for national security, and has been making steady efforts such as building international frameworks to bring about a peaceful and safe world, free of weapons. At the end of World War II Japan became the only country in the world ever to suffer the devastation of nuclear bombs. Following that experience, Japan adopted a stance of never possessing or using weapons of mass destruction, and never posing a threat to the international community.
