Finnish company NordicID has launched the PL3000 handheld computer for UHF data collection systems, to meet the expected growth in the use of RFID in the retail, warehouse and distribution markets. It is believed to be the first device of its type that can be used on European frequency bands to provide mobile data collection. With RFID, products are identified with special radio tags, which are read by handheld equipment and other devices. When the tags pass through a Radio Frequency (RF) field generated by a compatible reader, they transmit information stored by the tag to the reader, identifying and giving details about the object to which they are attached.
