Hand Calculation of J-Estimation for Structures with Weld-Joints of Dissimilar Materials based on Engineering Treatment Model

An approximate solution for the equivalent stress-strain relationship has been obtained by assuming that the average resistances controlling the plastic stress and strain fields lie near the crack tip. The results show good agreement with those estimated using the equivalent stress-strain relationship method. ETM considers a net response of the structure and allows the design engineer to consider the structure homogeneous one and hand-calculate the solutions. These mathematical equations could be modified based on the need of precision and accuracy required for the specific application. Hence the opening for applying the model based on one's need gives a lot of flexibility in arena of usage.
