A comparative analysis of vertical temperature and humidity profiles, retrieved from MODIS and test radiosonde data from RAOB inventories has been performed. The analysis results allowed us to explore the applicability of meteorological satellite data to radiation calculations and solution of the problem of atmospheric correction of satellite infrared images of the Earth's surface. It is shown that the satellite and radiosonde data may noticeably differ. However, the difference, on average, has the same sign for the temper-ature and humidity profiles and such a value which results in canceling the errors of satellite meteorological data when using them in radiation calculations. This allows the use of the satellite meteorological data to solve the inverse problem of retrieval of the land-surface temperature with an error less than 0.5-1 K from MODIS satellite measurements, when employing the RTM approach.
