Curtain airbags recommended as standard following ANCAP side impact test

The latest Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) crash test results show that airbag protection for the head should be encouraged when purchasing vehicles to protect against serious injury in vehicle side impacts On releasing the test results, ANCAP Chair Lauchlan Mclntosh and Federal Roads Minister Jim Lloyd said effective curtain airbags provide good occupant head protection in side impacts with poles and in high vehicle impacts, such as 4WDs, whereas in vehicles without curtain airbags, occupants are at high risk of a fatal head injury.
