RESURRECTING A MODEL name is a gamble, especially when the badge has lain dormant long enough for the last cars to wear it to evolve into well-loved, gauzily remembered collector's items. So we'll make this clear right from the start: The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider is not exactly the charming-if-temperamental original reborn. True, the modem two-seater cribs some of its namesake's Pininfarina-penned style - it comes across most clearly in the side character lines, less delicately executed here, plus the recessed headlights and cheerful face. Cut away the all-new sheetmetal, though, and you'll find underpinnings that are, for good and ill, not Italian at all.
