The New Continuously Variable Transmission

A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is an automatic transmission that can change its gear ratio to any setting within its limits. The CVT is not restricted to a small number of gear ratios, such as the 4 to 6 forward ratios in typical automotive transmissions. The main specifications of Honda's '06 Civic Hybrid and conventional '02 Civic Hybrid CVT are shown in Table 1.
