WHEN THOSE OF US traveling with the Formula 1 circus left Austin a year ago, we were pretty sure that we would not be coming back. The 2015 United States Grand Prix weekend had been a complete disaster, with awful weather, frustrated spectators and a whole lot of nothing positive. The chairman of the Circuit of the Americas, Bobby Epstein, remarked that the Grand Prix weekend had been "financially devastating." To add insult to injury, a few days later, the circuit flooded, retaining walls collapsed and the main grandstand was hit by lightning.
