摘要

Fifteen years ago the enterprise mix on 'Broadlands' changed from set stocking (60% pasture) to 100% cropping with some stubble grazing. Once pasture fallows were removed from the system, Charlie Boyle started to think more carefully about how he could manage weeds. At this point Boyle implemented an integrated weed management (IWM) program because he wanted a sustainable cropping system that did not rely solely on herbicides. He was looking for the ability to sensibly incorporate selective herbicides into a sustainable program. Annual ryegrass and wild oats are the main weed issues in the region, mainly due to a large export hay industry Boyle's farm business recently bought 250 hectares of cropping country that was infested with annual ryegrass.
