Shearers can stand tall at work

Shearing has entered the 21st Century. A range of upright-posture shearing platforms (UPSPs) has been developed that could boost health and safety, with the first one available last November. Many work-related injuries, which cost the industry more than 44 million dollar a year, involve bad backs and handpiece stick-and-stab injuries. Much effort has thus been put into developing new technologies that address occupational health and safety (OH&S). The Peak Hill Industries ShearEzy UPSP prototype wasshowcased at Australian Wool Innovation Limited's (AWI) November annual general meeting in Adelaide. It is being used in commercial trials with shearing contractors in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania.
