Preserving our unique rural image

Travelling around the country, it is astounding to see the growing number of subdivisions taking up what many would call "good farm land" on the outskirts of numerous cities and towns, especially along the eastern seaboard. It does not seem to matterwhether you are in the south of Tasmania, tropical north Queensland or Western Australia, many regions seem to be experiencing the same extensive growth pattern. Many factors could contribute to this: wealth in the urban community, low interest rates, ever-increasing house and land prices, freeways, car affordability (fuel prices amazingly are only grumbled about), present government policy encouraging land ownership, plus taxation issues.
