摘要

A CONSISTENT income is vital for young families, but is often difficult for farmers to achieve. But the prospects of a more consistent farming income was enough to tempt one Queensland farm family, the Faggs, to pack their bags earlier this year and move north to Millaroo, in the Burdekin region of North Queensland. For the past 11 years, Des and Marina Fagg sharefarmed at Carmel Downs, a grain aggregation near Clermont, in Central Queensland -an area still reeling from the effects of drought. The switch to cane should be a more profitable alternative for Des and Marina and their children, Dale and Damen, particularly with the security and reliability of irrigation water from the Burdekin River Irrigation Scheme.
