June 1996 was an eventful month as senior editor of Australia Farm Journal WOOL. The third article in a series by Merino wool farmer and author Charles Massy was about to be published. The first two articles in March and May 1996 editions had been received enthusiastically by many readers. Each articles precede gave an insight into Massy's thoughts: "In the first article of a three part series on the decline of the wool industry and how that decline can be arrested, Charles Massy examines the reasonswool growers are struggling to survive." "In the second article ... Massy argues that while global markets have a part to play in the current wool crisis, the major cause of the demise of the Australian wool industry has been the construction of the commodity culture by non-accountable individuals and bodies in the industry."
