The environmentally sound and economically designed woolshed at the Deepwater end of The Bulls Run won numerous accolades at the 2005 Royal Australian Institute of Architects awards. The award jury described architect Peter Stutchbury's design as a "building that transforms the shearing shed into a new Australian icon". While the awards were important, the shed's real test is how it functions as an efficient and safe workplace. According to the shearers and shed hands who work in it during the February shearing when maximum temperatures are often about 40 deg C, rfs an outstanding success. Maximum temperature in the shed is about 28 deg C on these days. Added to the cooler temperature is the flow of air around the shearers helping their evaporativecooling. Interestingly, while each shearing stand has an up- draft fan, about half the shearers are comfortable working without it on, preferring the comfort provided by natural flow of air around the board and across the shed generated by the building's design.
