Beyond the wall: China aquaculture study tour 2002

On June 10 this year 13 students from Curtin Universities' Aquatic Science Unit in Western Australia departed Perth for an 18 day International Study Tour of China. Curtin's International Program Director and Unit Co-ordinator Dr Ravi Fotedar accompanied the students along with industry representative, Mr Roger Morgan. The aim of the tour was to expose students to a variety of culture technologies of various aquatic species cultured in China and evaluate the environmental issues facing their aquaculture operations. In doing so engulfing the enormity of their production levels and contrasting overseas aquaculture with that of Western Australia. This involved visiting several of the many institutes and universities aimed at the development and enhancement of aquaculture in China as well as visits to fish farms and markets.
