Harmony Gold Mining Company Ltd chief executive Graham Briggs says his group can operate well in South Africa and had proven this by turning a 16% rise in operating profit to R1.6 billion in the December quarter despite the severe labour trouble at the Kusasalethu mine. Presenting the quarterly results at the Mining Indaba Briggs said, "I'm optimistic about South Africa. We have spent a lot of capital in the country and we own some great assets here. We have a profitable company with a net cash position. Certainly, there are issues but we need to face them."
