IN any industry it's important to assess what drives your niche so you can look to be ahead of the curve. In landscaping and many other areas of horticulture, there is a definite sense of 'fashion' and trends. What drives this? Who decides what's fashionable in a garden at a given point in time, versus the ideal methodology for selecting plants to feature in a landscape? As more and more people feel the call of organic, sustainable practices in their gardens and other areas of their lives, we shouldbe giving power back to the land in determining garden trends - not what is being promoted at "retail" or what's familiar to us.
