Forage sales help diversify operation

DIVERSITY is the key for the Kennedy family, of Kenfield Dairy at Mossiface in East Gippsland, Vic. Darryl, Jarrod, Warren and Carolyn Kennedy are siblings and decided to enter the dairy industry nearly five years ago, with a focus on each doing whathe or she was good at doing. The business has two income streams: milk production and hay and silage sales. Darryl runs the 14-a-side swing-over dairy; Jarrod focuses on growing hay; Warren, a fitter and turner, works in the dairy on weekends and is responsible for maintenance; and Carolyn is the bookkeeper. They recently began employing a farm worker during the week and another to help with milking on the weekend.
