Textile Firm Bankruptcies Lowest in Ten Years

According to the Credit Exchange Agency Co., Ltd., the bankruptcies of Japanese textile and apparel firms in 2013 (liabilities of over 10 million yen and reorganization and voluntary liquidation included) numbered 461 cases, down 19 cases (4%) from the previous year. Liabilities rose by 7.4 billion yen (7.6%) to 105.4 billion yen, and surpassed the 100-billion-yen level again. Bankruptcies decreased for the sixth consecutive year, and numbered less than 500 cases for two straight years. The number of bankruptcies was the lowest in a decade.
