As of the second quarter 2006,the Thai government corrected its economic growth rate downward to 4,5%,the worst scenario of the government's original plan (4.5-5.5%).Exports continue to work as the engine for growth;nevertheless,the sluggishness in domestic consumption and investment has become a problem.The Thai political situation is in confusion as shown by the sudden statement of Prime Minister Thaksin to step down temporarily and his subsequent return to power.This situation has delayed the execution of the budget.The passage of the new fiscal 2007 budget had been expected in October this year;however,the passage will be postponed into next year.
