Method for Assessment of Information Value of Dental X-Ray Images

According to medical practice, the main requirement for quality of dental X-ray images is its information value. Information value implies the useful information volume obtained by the viewer (a roentgenologist) as a result of X-ray image analysis. X-ray image information value can be assessed using subjective (visual) and objective (physical) parameters. Visually determined reproduction completeness using an image with a set of details or object structure is a subjective parameter of information value. Objective assessment is based on optical density distribution at image border using so-called boundary curve or contrast-frequency characteristic (CFC).
