The bicycle ergometer for loading in cardiology is a measuring device for setting and maintenance of required torque moment on a shaft with pedals for a necessary period of time. Contemporary bicycle ergometers employ electromagnetic loading. The3 possible construction of the loading system is shown in Fig. 1 [1]. The bicycle ergometer loading device contains an electromagnetic brake, force sensor, and rotation frequency sensor (Fig. 1). The electromagnetic brake (polar eddy current brake) with massive anchor consists of an inductor with three pairs of poles and a ring anchor [3]. The steel inductor and anchor are mounted on one axis. The anchor is rotated using a shaft with pedals and a two-step gear (not shown in Fig. 1). The working gap of the system (distance from the outer surface of the inductor poles to the inner cylindrical surface of the anchor) has a decisive effect on the magnetic interaction between the elements of the electromagnetic brake [3]. The force sensor is an aluminum beam (tensobeam) with symmetric oppositely located two pairs of tensoresistors connected as a bridge circuit. The rotation frequency sensor detects light flux changes. The elements of the electromagnetic brake and force sensor are attached to a cantilever on the bicycle ergometer frame.
