In Japan, insects that eat and damage clothes are the clothes moth, the webbing clothes moth, the princess beetle, etc. (Figure 1). During their larval period, they eat wool, raw silk, cocoons and also dry animal substances. The fibers and yarns of fabrics are fumigated with carbon disulfide, sulfu-rous acid gas, etc. to kill pest eggs, larvae and adult insects. A transpiration repellent is used for some products, such as para-dichlorobenzene, naphthalene and camphor.
