The sector of technical textiles is gaining more importance in terms of size, thanks to the technological features of its products and to its continuous offer of new and promising market niches. According to the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT), the growing importance of this sector is confirmed by following: 1. Technical textiles account for 23% of the European textile market. 2. Their world consumption was estimated at 33.7 million tons in 2010, and has an average growth rate of 3.8% yearly. 3. In Italy, this sector has a turnover of 1,200 million euro, and employs 6,000 people.
