The Carleton County Spring Show and Sale is more than just cattle. Through its long history, this New Brunswick event has morphed from displaying and auctioning select cattle into an institution celebrating the rural community. While the Show and Saleis about fine cattle, the event stirs the entire community to get out to enjoy the early spring weather and meet friends and neighbors to discuss how the past winter measured up and what the coming seasons will offer. Beef producers initiated the SpringShow in 1953, and 4-H beef projects were added in 1963. Besides celebrating beef breeding and husbandry, the event also brings together county residents and the business community in a major social event. In addition to showing and selling their animals, the exhibitors donate a finished steer as a fund-raiser, and the business community responds generously, bidding the animal to a handsome price with the money going to support a cause connected to the heart of the county.
