Deliveries to Port Hawkesbury Paper resume: Mill cites Competition Act, shuns collective talks with truckers and contractors
A brief standoff between Port Hawkesbury Paper and local pulp truckers came to an end in early May, but wood supply issues remain a source of tension, with the company having demonstrated it is willing and able to procure fiber from outside Nova Scotia when necessary. Delivery interruptions began in earnest on May 6, and continued throughout that week. Claude Bourgeois, president of the North Eastern Pulp Truckers Association (NEPTA), said the protest temporarily put a significant dent in the mill'ssupply, which normally comprises 100 to 120 loads of wood per day, primarily from NEPTA members.
