Disposal and composting regs very by province. The deadstock composting research being done at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College seems to offer a promising option for cattle producers, Well, it's certainly an option in that province, where officials not only allow but encourage the practice. But the regulatory approach to deadstock disposal is different in each of the Atlantic provinces. According to Dr. Jim Goltz, a provincial veterinarian with the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture, composting deadstock in that province is illegal. "Under the New Brunswick Health Act, there are only three ways, by law, to dispose of deadstock," says Dr. Goltz. "They include incineration, burial, and any method approved by a district medical health officer."
