Technip wins Lake Charles LNG contract

France’s Technip has won the initial engineering contract for the potential conversion of the US Lake Charles LNG import terminal into an export facility. The project in Louisiana includes an LNG plant and a 15mn t/yr export terminal at an estimated cost of $11bn. Initial engineering is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2014, with the project due on line in mid-2019. The three-train facility was previously scheduled to start up in March 2018. The US Department of Energy has granted it a licence — subject to environmental and construction approvals — to export to countries that do not have free trade agreements (FTAs) with the US.
