Australia’s first half imports rose 15pc on the prior year period, totalling 527,000t. Canada provided 74pc of these tonnes, at 388,000t - down 8pc on the year. The drop could be attributed to the wildfires in the Alberta oil sands region which limited the volume of sulphur reaching Vancouver for export. Meanwhile, imports from Qatar rose 294pc, totalling 138,000t.
