Beating Buyers To US LNG To Maintain Market Share

Woodside Petroleum has signed a landmark agreement for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the US' Cheniere Energy, with the major Australia LNG producer taking on 0.85mn tonnes per annum (tpa) – about 1.16bn cubic metres (bcm) – from the emerging exporter of US LNG. Through its trading arm in Singapore, Woodside will pay 115% of the monthly Henry Hub price and an additional USD3.50/mnBTU for supplies from Cheniere's proposed Corpus Christi terminal in Texas for 20 years. Deliveries to Woodside may begin from 2019, if a final investment decision (FID) is made for Corpus Christi by 2015.
