HPL keen to back Basell bid

HALDIA Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) has shown interest in financially supporting the Chatterjee investment group in bidding for Basell Polyolefins,even though Chatterjee has not approached it about the venture.The Chatterjee group,a principal promoter of HPL,has been shortlisted by Basell's 50:50 joint-venture shareholders,Shell and BASF,as one of the three bidders in the potential USUS5.63bn takeover deal.The other two bidders are Ineos and Iran's National Petrochemical Co (NPC).
