In Memoriam: A Tribute to Robert C. Wagenaar, PhD

Our rehabilitation community has lost a talented and impactful colleague. Robert C. Wagenaar, PhD, passed away after a brief cardiac-related illness on February 13, 2013. Robert was a skilled scientist, devoted educator and mentor, and beloved husband, father, and dear friend.Robert received his BS in philosophy, and an MS and PhD in human movement science from Vrije University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He was an instructor in rehabilitation psychology and rehabilitation research at Vrije University from 1991 to 1998. Thereafter, he started at Boston University as chairman and associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. He was tenured in 2003 and became a full professor in 2005. During his span at Boston University, Robert was director of the Center for Neurorehabilitation and the Doctor of Science in the rehabilitation sciences program. In 2012, Robert started at Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht as professor of clinical health sciences and head of the Rehabilitation, Nursing Science, and Sport division.
