The average delivery speed for freight, including empty railcar returns, on the Russian Railways (RZD) network rose by 27pc on the year in January-June to 296.3 km/d (12.3 km/hr), RZD said last month. But while some of its customers say they have seen a measure of improvement, they add that this is simply a result of lower freight turnover and the removal of surplus railcars from the network.
