Norway terminal pitches for Russian crude

International transportation firm Stolt-Nielsen hopes to load some of the crude due to be produced from Russia's arctic offshore fields, such as Prirazlomnoye and Novoportovskoye. Subsidiary Norterminal leased a 100 hectare (1km2) plot on Kors Fjord near Kirkenes in Norway's Finnmark prov- ince, close to the Russian border, in January. Construction of a terminal, mostly for crude, is due to begin in 2014, and the firm aims to start loadings in 2016-17. Initial capacity will be 10mn t/yr (200,000 b/d), and this could eventually double. It will be able to store 500,000t in its first year, and this could double, too. Norterminal expects 150-300 tankers of up to 300,000t to call at the facility a year. Construction is expected to cost ?270mn-537mn ($360mn-716mn).
