Chinese crude imports picked up in August, while refnery runs and transport fuel exports contracted sharply. Chinese apparent oil demand - crude production plus net oil imports - rose by nearly 1mn b/d from a year earlier and by nearly 600,000 b/d from July, reach- ing 11.67mn b/d (see table). But refnery runs fell month on month, suggesting that as much as 1mn b/d of crude may have gone into storage.
