Persistently weak margins have spurred refiners to sharply cut output since the fourth quarter of last year, and maintenance will cut runs further. Austria’s OMV will shut its 200,000 b/d Schwechat refinery in Austria for 15 days for crude unit maintenance in the second quarter. And it will carry out a 40-day turnaround at its 68,000 b/d Burghausen refinery in Germany in the fourth quarter. Finland’s Neste planned to shut its 197,000 b/d Porvoo refinery for decoking maintenance for five weeks in the first quarter. And Portugal’s Petrogal is starting a 45-day general shutdown at its 220,000 b/d Sines refinery this month.
