Crude futures prices surged after the prospect of Hurricane Rita forced the shutdown of just over 4mn b/d of US refining capacity,adding to the Imn b/d already closed in following Hurricane Katrina.Global demand for light sweet crude remained firm,as refiners seek to build heating oil stocks ahead of winter and to satisfy lingering gasoline demand.
