Delta to buy Trainer refinery

US airline Delta has agreed to buy the 185,000 b/d Trainer refinery in Pennsylvania, as it seeks to cut fuel costs. The refinery, which has been idle since October, had been slated for permanent closure this summer unless a buyer was found. Delta plans to spend $100mn on doubling jet fuel production to 52,000 b/d at the plant, which is close to three of its northeast passenger hubs, once 100pc subsidiary Monroe Energy completes the initial $180mn purchase in July.
