Diesel market tightens as arrivals falter

Diesel availability is tightening in northwest Europe amid slower deliveries from Russia and US Gulf coast suppliers. Russian and US Gulf coast refineries are major producers of German-specification winter-grade diesel. Lower arrivals in northwest Europe helped propel German diesel premiums to crude benchmark North Sea Dated to a 10-month high of more than $13/bl on 4 October (see graph). Margins for other northwest European diesel grades have likewise strengthened, although not as markedly as the German-specification varieties.
