Trade in spot cargoes of Abu Dhabi light sour Murban crude has fallen since stateowned Adnoc took over the stream’s marketing this year. Around 16 Murban cargoes a month, or 265,000 b/d, now trade on the spot market without destination restrictions, down from 25 trades a month, or 400,000 b/d, last year. Lower spot volumes have reduced price transparency, making Adnoc less receptive to the spot market when deciding its official selling prices. The firm sets official prices retrospectively and recently sharply cut its Murban price for February. But May cargoes are still trading in the spot market at relatively wide discounts of 50￠/bl to the eventual Adnoc official selling price.
