Hydrocarbon Production Totaled 214 Million Tons of Oil Equivalent in 2010, but Could Decline in 2011

When presenting the national oil company's 2010 results, the Chairman of Sonatrach, Mr. Nordine Cherouati, pointed out that primary hydrocarbon production had totaled some 214 million tons of oil equivalent (toe) last year. Of that total, fields operated by the national oil company alone accounted for 154 million toe, which was much the same as in 2009. Mr. Cherouati added that two-thirds of that 154 million toe came from the super-giant Hassi Messaoud and Hassi R'Mel field. Sonatrach's production forecasts for 2011 are for a little over 207 million toe, on the assumption that the OPEC quota assigned to Algeria remains at 1.2 million barrels/day this year.
