Mr. Abdullah Nasser al-Suwaidi Replaces Mr. Yousef Omair bin Yousef as CEO of ADNOC

Following a restructuring of Abu Dhabi's Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC) under a decree issued on 25 June by the Ruler of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayhan, acting in his capacity as Governor of the emirate, Mr. Abdullah Nasser al-Suwaidi has replaced Mr. Yousef Omair bin Yousef as Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). Born in 1958, Mr. Yousef Omair bin Yousef was previously Minister of Petroleum of the UAE for several years before taking over the reins at ADNOC, a post he has occupied for more than 10 years. The official news agency Warn published the two emiri decrees, without giving any reasons. The local press has come up with at least three different explanations for the departure of the former CEO of ADNOC. The first is that he resigned to devote more time to his business affairs and personal commitments. Another reason advanced is a change sought by the Abu Dhabi authorities ahead of negotiations on the extension of the concessions of foreign companies operating in the emirate, some of which are due to expire in 2014.
